La Misión de Apoyo de las Naciones Unidas en Libia (UNSMIL) acogió con beneplácito el anuncio de la Alta Comisión Electoral Nacional (HNEC) de los resultados preliminares para los 58 municipios, que mostraron una participación significativa de más del 77% de los votantes registrados para las elecciones de los consejos municipales.
La UNSMIL felicitó al pueblo de Libia y a todos los interesados, incluidos los medios de comunicación y los observadores, por su participación y su contribución positiva a un proceso electoral pacífico y transparente. También felicitó a la HNEC por la celebración de las elecciones municipales y a las instituciones de seguridad del Estado por ayudar a garantizar un entorno seguro y pacífico en el que los votantes pudieran emitir sus votos.
"Dado que la fase de apelaciones en este proceso electoral comienza mañana, la UNSMIL insta a seguir manteniendo un ambiente pacífico y enfatiza que cualquier queja de candidatos, listas y agentes debe ser resuelta a través de mecanismos legales que respeten las reglas de los procedimientos y los principios democráticos", dijo la UNSMIL.
El informe añadió: "Las elecciones municipales son una oportunidad crucial para que el pueblo libio ejerza su derecho a elegir a sus representantes y fomente una gobernanza responsable y receptiva. Las Naciones Unidas en Libia están dispuestas a apoyar los procesos políticos y electorales dirigidos y controlados por los libios para lograr legitimidad, estabilidad a largo plazo y un progreso significativo para la nación".

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomed the announcement by the High National Electoral Commission (HNEC) of preliminary results for all 58 municipalities, which showed significant participation of over 77 per cent of registered voters for the municipal council elections.
UNSMIL congratulated the people of Libya and all stakeholders, including the media and observers, for their participation and positive contribution to a peaceful and transparent electoral process. It also congratulated the HNEC for the conduct of the municipal elections and the State security institutions for helping to ensure a safe and peaceful environment in which voters could cast their ballots.
"As the appeals phase of this electoral process begins tomorrow, UNSMIL urges the continued maintenance of a peaceful environment and emphasizes that any complaints from candidates, lists and agents must be resolved through legal mechanisms that respect the rules of procedure and democratic principles," UNSMIL said.
The report added: "Municipal elections are a crucial opportunity for the Libyan people to exercise their right to elect their representatives and foster responsible and responsive governance. The United Nations in Libya stands ready to support Libyan-led and controlled political and electoral processes to achieve legitimacy, long-term stability and meaningful progress for the nation."
